LETTER TO THE FRESHERS, From QLSA Unilorin Chapter.

Dear Freshers,

Hope this letter meets you well. We are using this medium to congratulate and welcome you to this University. You deserve a pat in the back for making it till this level, however, this is the beginning of another long journey. 

From QLSA Unilorin Chapter, we wish you a good luck on your academic trip. To then make your journey a easy one, we have for you, few instructions and we implore you to comply.

Before we proceed, who are we, QLSA Unilorin Chapter? 

Quantum Leap Student's Assembly (QLSA) is a campus based organization that has major interest in training youths in a parliamentary styles so as to build them into a worthy leaders. Our main focus is on leadership skill, political literacy and academic success of our members. To achieve this, we have several programs one of which is our weekly sitting which hold on Thursdays, where we rub minds on national matters, campus lives and general decision making.

Well, we shall tell you more about QLSA as time goes on. 

Now, here are some instructions for you:

Don't Be Carried Away Or Get Distracted

I must tell you that the word "University" is a coinage of "Universe" and "city". Universe is very wide, that's why it's very easy for one to lose one's way in it, except you have a map. There are lots of beautiful people and things on campus which would attract your attention, please be careful not to be carried away. Coming to higher Institution always bring a particular sense of freedom but never let that freedom lead to indiscipline. Focus on what you're here for and success shall be yours. 

Struggle For 1st Class From The Start

A lecturer usually tells us in class, that one of the best things we can give our parents as undergraduates is best results that display an outstanding academic performances. The reason is that, with that, they will have confidence in us. As a fresher, I will advise you to always aim for the best of the results. The truth is, you cannot always have it but, at least aiming at the moon may make you hit the star. From your day one in the university, prepared for first class, at least you won't miss what follows if probably you miss first class. At the same time, aiming low is an indication of failure, totally avoid it.

Don't Have Issue With School Authority

There are lots of ways to get dismissed from University of Ilorin, I will advise you to avoid all of them. Apart from poor academic performance, that is, inability of the student to meet up with good standing which is minimum pass grade for each department (some 1.5 some 2.0) having issues with authorities is a sure way of terminating your studentship. Dress properly, talk properly, I will also advise you not to be rebellious, don't let a lecturer recognize you as a bad egg, give maximum respect to all staff, academic and non-academic, and have a responsible person as your mentor. 

 

 

Engage In A Necessary Extra Curriculars

There are lot of extra curriculars in higher Institution. I will advise you to look with calm eyes and choose properly. Choose the one that will enhance your development as your career is concerned; the one you will be proud to have on your CV; not the one you choose because of fun or merrymaking. And please don't overburden yourself with activities. Your primary purpose here is academy, try not to forget that. None of the extracurriculars worth failing in your academy for. Do yourself a favour by striking a balance. Do so and success is certainly yours.

You Need Prayer Against Bad Spirits

More than every other things mentioned above, you need prayer. Devil is real, devily-inclined people are real as well, pray hard for God's protection against both. There are some students out there whose academic lives really matters not to, failure to them is not an issue at all. You must move away from those and pray to God to give you best of peers to move with. Moving with failures will surely turn you into one, just as it is for success, both attracts. Connect with right people and disconnect from wrong people. 

NOTE IMPORTANTLY...

All the instructions given in this read are not one-size-fits-all solutions to failure (or determinants for success) in university campus, there are still lots of them. Seek advice from the right persons and follow the foot-steps of the toppers in your department. Look for them, find them and struggle to be like them.
